As we start out on a brand New Year, we have taken a few moments to reflect on the Best of 2015 and it’s fair to say it has been a fabulous year for Top Drop Tours.
Most of the photographs that we post on social media are taken while on tour with a mobile phone or from our office. While the quality is not always amazing, a few of them have really captured the spirit of the moment, these are our favourites.
Our Favourite Tour of the Year
This was a very late entrant as on December 30 we were lucky enough to host a family from Singapore. What made this tour stand out from the hundreds that we delivered during the year was the fact that among the 11 guests were 4 generations.
Now we very rarely take photos of our guests on tour, but with ages ranging from 7 months to 88 years, I’m not sure this is something that we are likely to repeat.
Favourite Wine of the Year
One of the great benefits of running a wine tour business in the Margaret River Region is the fact that we have access to some amazing wine, both from the wineries that we visit regularly and from our own expeditions.
It is impossible for me to pick one Margaret River wine over another as my favourite (fence sitter!!) so I am going to pick one from a trip I did to the Barossa. I was lucky enough to visit a small winery called Yelland & Papps, their alternate winemaking style really connected with me, particularly their ‘Second Take’ range of unfiltered and unrefined wines. A little bit funky, a little bit fun and a whole lot of Yum.
A very close second goes to The Lake House from Denmark, their reserve Riesling and Pinot Noir are great and both were enjoyed over Christmas along with many of our favourite Margaret River Chardonnays.
Rest assured, we will continue to take our research seriously in 2016.
Best Food Experience of the Year
Once again we have been spoilt rotten with the incredible food in the Margaret River Region and it is hard to go past the lunches that we have enjoyed at Hay Shed Hill and Wills Domain this year. But, for something so simple that it had to be perfect, my number one experience was, fresh oysters on the beach with a bottle of bubbles, personally I don’t think it can get any better than this.
Best Tour Operator of the Year
2015 really has been an incredible year for Top Drop Tours, every day we get to have fun with people from all over the world in the place that we think is paradise.
To be recognised as being good at what we do is extremely satisfying, we would like to thank everyone that has taken the time to write a review on Trip Advisor, post a photo on social media or send us a message about their tour.
Five years ago we set the ridiculously ambitious goal of being the best tour operator in Australia (naivety, confidence or arrogance – you decide). Since that time we have worked every day to improve what we do.
In April 2015 we won the Gold Medal at the Australian Tourism Awards for the Best Tour Operator in Australia. What a moment, I think there is still a little adrenaline remaining 8 months later.
Despite enjoying this incredible acolade our immediate reaction was to ensure that we are even better in 2016, we hope you will join us and find out if we succeed!
